7 Tips to a Successful ePledge Implement

It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but it can be done! Moving from paper pledge forms to an online system, there are several considerations to help you be successful. Purdue University had been running the United Way campaign on paper pledge forms for over 30 years. This year, the University implemented Andar/ePledge, with the help of United Way of Greater Lafayette and the Indiana Association of United Ways, and successfully launched the campaign. In this session, we will share 7 practical tips and strategies for how to effectively, efficiently and cost-consciously implement ePledge for the workplace campaign.

Engaging Retirees and Boomers!

Many United Ways are missing out on a wonderful resource when they lose touch with baby boomers and retirees as they leave the workplace. This market segment represents a strong loyal donor base (for annual, endowment and planned gifts), an expanding revenue opportunity as they are a rapidly growing segment of our society, and a skilled volunteer group that can buttress and enhance our initiatives. This session will review some compelling statistics around boomers and retirees being United Ways strongest donors, the substantial number of boomers that are retiring, and the unprecedented wealth transfer that will be happening from 2016 to 2050. The session will focus on enhancing the donor engagement experience by giving Retiree/Baby Boomers a complementary avenue to make a gift, and encouraging them to endow their gift - a strategy that can multiply a donor's capacity to give and allow them to give in perpetuity, as well as help local United Ways develop a more sustainable revenue base. The session will review donor goals and selecting the type of vehicles that meet their objectives, and also take a look at United Way giving engagement strategies for the retiree/boomer market. Some keys points to be covered include:
- Making the connection BEFORE people leave the workplace!
-How Planned Giving provides an opportunity for a highly engaged conversation about the donor's philanthropic vision and continuing their tradition of supporting the community. 
-Listen, Listen, Listen- it's not about United Way; it's about finding out what's important to the donor(s), and then choosing the planned gift vehicle (e.g., type of asset, annuity, bequest, etc.) so those values can be preserved into the future.

-Resources are available to help - such as a series of role playing videos designed to enhance gift asks of donors drawing upon the expertise of former staff representing 175 years of United Way experience!!

Cultivating the baby boomer/retiree market for planned gifts or endowed gifts; and keeping boomers actively engaged in our work as they retire is an opportunity for United Ways we should not be missing!
